[info]farthingalesla: farthingale hoop connectors

We used to stock hoop connectors in two sizes, they had been designed by us but were manufactured by another company who is no long able to make them. Many of you have inquired over the last year about them...and we've finally found another company who will make them for us!

Hoop connectors for making civil war hoops, farthingales, panniers and mascots should be back by early July, maybe sooner.

Our hoop connectors were designed to fit our superior hoop steel and will be available for the 10mm and 14mm steels (that's approximately 3/8" and 5/8").

Visit www.farthingalescorsetmakingsupplies.com and book mark it so you can check back regularly. You'll find them on the hoop steel page once they arrive.

No, these are not historically accurate but they do make hoop making easier and storage means hoops wound into zip lock bags...you can take them anywhere.

[info]sstormwatch: A short note

Hi all,

I was just notified I am now the new owner of this community from the LJ powers-that-be. I can only guess that our former owner is no longer active on LJ, and as I was the helping moderator, this ended up with me in charge.

I have no changes to make, so feel free to continue to post on all things about Elizabethan costumes. The community rules currently will remain the same. I may change to moderating newcomers if we get spammed by those spambots, but that will remain to be seen.

I would like to have an extra helper in moderating this group. If anyone is interested, please contact me privately at sstormwatch at yahoo dot com.

Thanks.

[info]ladymizri: Elizabethan Sleeves

I'm new to this community and stumbled across it as I was looking online for help with Elizabethan sleeves.  I'm currently working with Simplicity pattern 4508, but have no instructions for it.  The bodice I can construct, but the sleeve poufs are leaving me apprehensive.  I've never worked with the sleeve poufs before and was wondering if anyone on here could give me some insight?  I'd really appriciate it.  Thanks!

[info]llyrafantasyfae: To anyone who knows more than me.

I am reproducing a chemise out of Pattern of Fashions 4 pg 69. Everything is going good I just have one question that arose when I  was re-reading everything trying to figure out exactly how the hem things. It says in the notes that the wrist and neck frills have a 4 strand plait on the edges. My question is: is this how the treated the edges, and if so, anyone know of any tutorials of how to do this. OR: is it a 4 strand plait that is crouched down to the edge. Any input is GREATLY appreciated.

[info]allie_oop_07: Froggs

I was wondering if anyone here would have any experience making froggs. I am making a kirtle with an overgown and I need 22 of the stupid things. There are some instructions for them online but I can only seem to find the Chinese ones with the three loops.

[info]deriana: French hood question

I come to you for help once again.
I'm used to seeing french hoods with a black veil hanging from the back.
Now I've been commissioned for this Jane Grey portrait where I notice no veil.

How would that hood be finished in the back?

Thank you!

And here's a pic for the second Elizabeth I doll I made with this community's help.

[info]arrienne: Lace Cuffs

I wanted to have some needle lace I could wear to Pennsic (an outdoor camping event).
I made these needle lace cuffs. I attached a linen strip so that I could baste them to the inside of my sleeve and then pin the outside of the cuff to the sleeve.
When I am done, I can remove the cuffs and throw the smock in the washing machine.

[info]arrienne: Lace Making Tent at Pennsic Artisan's Row

Hi Everybody,

Do you make lace, are you interested in learning to make lace?  Come to the lace making tent at Pennsic Artisan's Row!
Lacemakers are going to display their work.  You can see what lace in period looked like and how it was made.  If you are interested in learning, you can drop in and learn from one of us.  If you make lace and would like to join us, come on by and bring your work to display!

If you are a 16th century costumer, this is a great way to learn more about an aspect of clothing that was extremely important to people during that time.  Even if you are not interested in making lace yourself, you can see what period lace actually looked like and get leads on how to research this area of costume.  This can help you make informed choices when you purchase lace or trim.

Among the people there will be myself, Mistress Arrienne Ashford  (Middle) - cutwork or needle lace and Mistress Nest (East) - bobbin lace.

This will take place Wednesday, August 11 - all day. Come by and visit!
